Speedway commission approves Keeser contract to design Main Street improvements

The Speedway Redevelopment Commission on June 16 approved a resolution hiring Keeser Consulting Group to complete design work for Main Street and prepare the project for bidding by the end of 2025.
The resolution, numbered 2025-07, passed unanimously, 3-0. President Miller called the item and said the commission would vote to approve the design contractor; Economic Director Kyle Markley described the expected schedule and scope.
“ We will be voting today on the Main Street design, that's planned, right now to have the design and out to bid for construction by end of year,” Economic Director Kyle Markley said. He told the commission the chosen firm, Keeser Consulting Group, performed the earlier survey work and will assist through design and the contractor bidding process.
Markley said the scope discussed includes replacing deteriorating brick pavers — likely not with new bricks — and using stamped concrete for greater durability and fewer trip hazards, as well as concrete and asphalt pavement work and bringing sidewalks and road improvements up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards. “Not replacing it with bricks. We're thinking, stamped, concrete, so it should be more durable, last longer, not as many trip hazards, year over year,” Markley said.
Commission discussion was brief. A motion to approve Resolution 2025-07 was made and seconded; all three commissioners present voted in favor. The commission did not amend the resolution during the meeting.
The commission noted the design contract will carry the project through bidding; a later agenda item or meeting will address contractor selection and construction scheduling after the design and bid documents are complete.
The commission did not set a construction start date at the June 16 meeting. The design work is intended to put the project out to bid by the end of the year, and any subsequent construction schedule will depend on the bidding and contracting process.
The commission adjourned at 6:10 p.m. and said remaining agenda items will return to a future meeting.
