Board adopts new high-school ELA curriculum after committee recommendation

Belvidere CUSD 100’s board voted June 16 to adopt a new high-school English language arts curriculum after recommendations from a teacher and administrator committee.
Board members said staff input and committee work guided the decision. "I appreciated the emails we've received from some of the staff that went through the committee," Member Piggie said during discussion; Member Diesemeyer and others noted the new curriculum aligns with materials already adopted at lower grade levels.
The board approved the curriculum by unanimous roll call. District staff will continue professional development and training to support the rollout in the coming school year.
Administrators noted the adoption continues a broader effort to align curriculum K–12 and to implement the state's literacy plan. The district said training for teachers has already begun and will continue over the summer to prepare for fall instruction.
