District approves fire panel network integration to link elementary and secondary campuses

The Palmdale Aerospace Academy District board approved a fire panel network integration proposal to connect the elementary and secondary campus fire alarm systems.
Director of Facilities Maintenance and Operations Mark Dunker told the board the elementary campus panel currently operates independently from the secondary campus, which limits centralized control and emergency response. "Currently the elementary campus fire panel operates independently from our secondary campus due to it being constructed later. This prevents a centralized control point and limits our emergency response capabilities," Dunker said.
The district plans to run fiber networking between the two campus fire systems and perform hardware upgrades; Apple Valley Communications is the installer for the project. Staff said the work will include rerecording audio messages to align with emergency protocols set by Ms. Lubbock, and full installation testing and certification with the fire department. The presenter described the project as needed to improve emergency response protocols. The board moved and approved the proposal by voice vote.
