Madaket Area Plan work group reviews Chapter 5 draft; narrows language on beach access and historic‑home inventory

The Madaket Area Plan Work Group met remotely to review the progress draft of Chapter 5, "Natural and Cultural Resources," and to refine language on beach access, historic‑home inventories and references to local conservation organizations, Chair Bruce Mandel said at the start of the meeting.

The discussion centered on three substantive items: the requirement to include inventories of significant natural and cultural resources in the area plan; how the plan should describe public access to Madaket beaches (pedestrian versus vehicular); and wording that acknowledges local conservation groups and historic‑resource mapping.

"The purpose of this meeting ... is to review the progress draft of chapter 5, natural and cultural resources," Bruce Mandel, chairperson of the work group, said. Mandel said he had circulated Peter's March 8 update and an inventory and map of Madaket beaches that he planned to attach as appendices to resolve the inventory requirement.

Ethan questioned whether an explicit inventory must be included in Chapter 5 or could be referenced from other chapters or existing plans. "What would happen if there were not inventories in this document?" Ethan asked. Mandel replied that an inventory is a formal requirement of the area plan and committed to sending Ethan additional chapter extracts and graphics from other area plans for use.
