Fillmore Unified staff told the board on June 3 they plan to recommend adoption of the Frog Street transitional kindergarten curriculum for the 2025–26 school year, following a yearlong pilot of two curricula tied to the new Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations.
Mary Ellen Garcia, director of curriculum, instruction and assessment, said the district piloted two examples shared by the state — Creative Curriculum and Frog Street — after the state released the Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) in June 2024. District TK and UPK teachers piloted each curriculum for six to eight weeks, Garcia said, using a district lens that included PTKLF alignment, social-emotional learning supports, multilingual learner supports and alignment with district initiatives.
"Although they were close in many areas, overall, the team rated Frog Street as a green overall," Garcia said, summarizing the pilot team's site-level reviews. She told trustees the pilot teams concluded Frog Street better met district needs across the PTKLF domains and recommended the district adopt Frog Street in 2025–26. Upon approval, staff said the district will schedule implementation training in fall and winter 2025 and continue to integrate Frog Street with district initiatives.
Board members praised the pilot process; trustees noted that every TK teacher and co-teacher participated in the pilots, which district staff described as a collaborative, district-wide effort. The recommendation will return as an action item at a future meeting for formal adoption.
