Madison County board approves new badge-pass access system for high school

The Madison County School Board on June 16 approved replacing the high school's exterior door access system with the district's existing BadPass card system, a 5-0 vote that Superintendent Dr. Pickles recommended to unify badge access across district campuses.
Board members said the current system at the high school is outdated. "The system that's at the high school now is antiquated and outdated," said Mr. Williams, a district staff member who presented the proposal, explaining the district already uses BadPass at the central school.

Mr. Williams described the project as a "rip and replace" of old equipment and confirmed current district-issued cards will work with the new high school readers.
In discussion, board members pressed about safety features and interoperability. Ms. Thompson asked whether the system includes emergency lockdown features; Mr. Williams said the system "does have emergency lockdown features," though he added the exterior doors are locked routinely. Board members also asked whether the system could be expanded later to add more safety or alert features; Mr. Williams said the purchase is primarily for ID management and access control and that some additional capabilities could be added in the future but were not part of the purchase.
Board members confirmed that staff and district cardholders would receive updated or reprogrammed badges as needed. The motion to approve the BadPass system for Madison County High School carried on a 5-0 vote.
The board did not adopt additional upgrades beyond access control at this time; any future expansion of features or separate purchase would require separate board action.
