Jasper City Council approves permits for three summer community events

The Jasper City Council on an unnumbered June meeting approved permits and short-term street blockages for three upcoming summer events at city parks and the courthouse square.
Kelly Barnes, events coordinator, described the requests: Coke Oven Frisco Day at AP Howell Park on Saturday, June 28, with setup at 6 a.m. and activities from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. A partial blockage of 20 Fifth Street West from the park to the playground pavilion was requested. Barnes also said Jasper First Methodist’s Vacation Bible School family night is scheduled Wednesday, July 16, with a partial blockage on Third Avenue from Eighteenth Street to the Blanton Building, and that Raising Arrows’ back-to-school bash will be at Courthouse Square on Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Barnes said the Raising Arrows event is free to the public, will include live music, door prizes, inflatables and portable restrooms, and that a certificate of liability insurance had been provided. She also said the police, fire and street departments had approved the three events.
Council members moved, seconded and voted in favor of the permits. The council did not attach additional conditions in the open meeting record.
