Representatives of the district foundation presented a $30,000 donation at the June 10 Palos CCSD 118 board meeting to support technology and screen replacement at Palos South. The foundation’s board members were introduced and the donation was accepted as a recognition of recent fundraising events.
Why it matters: Community donations and parent fundraising supplement district resources for classroom technology, student programs and staff supports. The $30,000 gift is earmarked for Paylos South (presented in meeting materials as Palos South) technology and screen replacement.
The Parent Faculty Association (PFA) reported raising more than $70,000 during the past school year, with about half of that total coming from the readathon. The PFA summary itemized recent spending: roughly $8,000 on the eighth‑grade graduation dance; more than $9,000 on staff appreciation events and lunches; over $4,000 on programming; and more than $17,000 on programming paid from PFA funds overall. The PFA also noted reimbursements to staff exceeded $10,000 and that donations earlier helped purchase smart boards.
The foundation and PFA thanked volunteers and district staff for their partnership; board members publicly acknowledged longtime volunteer Katie Mendoza for more than a decade of service to the PFA. The foundation announced upcoming fundraising dates and the PFA described summer incentive events for students.
No board action was required to accept the donation; the presentation was recorded in the meeting minutes as a fund recognition and thank‑you to volunteers and donors.
