KELLER, Texas — Economic development staff told the Keller Economic Development Board that the city’s retail vacancy rate is currently about 4%, below both the Texas average and the Dallas–Fort Worth figure, and summarized recent openings and ongoing recruitment efforts.
The staff presenter said the statewide retail vacancy rate is 4.4% and the DFW rate is 4.8%, while Keller’s retail vacancy sits at 4%. She reported two business openings in May (Stand Ministries and Smart Transportation Division), 53 Certificates of Occupancy issued year to date through May, and multiple upcoming openings including Monster Mini Golf (opened June 7), Italian Table and Soho Wine Bar.
“We had 2 new businesses that opened in May … so far through May, we’ve had 53 CEOs that have been issued,” the economic development staff member said, using the city’s internal metric for Certificates of Occupancy and openings. She also said staff are pursuing prospects for several larger commercial sites and are in contact with the owner of the Las Palapas building, who prefers to identify a new franchisee to reopen that restaurant under the same brand.
Staff announced an incoming intern to support economic-development projects and said staffers will attend the midyear Texas Economic Development Council conference for professional development. The staff member asked board members to note the next meeting date on July 21 at 6 p.m.
No formal board action was taken on recruitment or incentive items at this meeting; the presentation was informational and staff said they will return with updates as negotiations progress.
