Joy Shaw (new campus) construction: gyms, field and front glass in place; finishes continuing

District construction staff presented an on-site progress update for the new campus (Joy Shaw, as presented) and showed photos of interior and exterior work in progress, telling the board that most classrooms are about 90% complete and that site amenities such as the field, track and tennis courts are finished.

What was reported: Presenters said areas A and B have ceiling tiles, light fixtures and painted walls completed; areas F and G have ceiling tiles, fixtures and LVT flooring installed; the gyms have air conditioning running and paint jobs finished, with basketball goals and press boxes installed. The field and track were shown as complete, and tennis courts were finished with perimeter fencing. Kitchen equipment had arrived and work to acclimate flooring before installation is scheduled.

Timing and access: District staff said classroom areas were roughly 90% complete and that some spaces are air conditioned while other areas are still finishing. The contractor will acclimate gym flooring with air-conditioning for about two weeks before installing the final floor. Staff said they hope to have at least the first building areas finished for fall use and invited trustees to visit the site when practical.

Accessibility and courtyard surfaces: Trustees asked whether courtyards would be turfed; staff said courtyards will not be conventional turf and will not require mowing but will include seating, shade and concrete features. Press boxes and stands are in place and concession/bathroom work is ongoing.
