Red Oak ISD reports rising industry certifications, CTE concentrators and CCMR gains

Red Oak ISD officials told the board Tuesday that career and technical education programs produced more industry-based certifications across multiple programs this year, and that the district’s CCMR indicators increased as a result.
"The steady increase in industry based certifications ... has progressively increased, which is a good thing," CTE presenter said at the meeting, where administrators highlighted enrollment and certification counts in health science, welding, computer science and engineering programs.
Key figures reported to the board: district presenters said 33 seniors earned EKG certifications, 31 earned phlebotomy, and 23 earned PCT in the health sciences sequence; the district reported 490 CTE concentrators and 236 completers for a total of 739 students in those categories. District officials said 353 industry-based certifications were earned this year compared with 304 the prior year and 183 the year before that. The presenters also highlighted programs with strong results: a welding program (ag tech and mechanical systems) reported 24 IVCs with a 100% completion rate for that credential; computer science pathways showed 89 concentrators and 16 completers; engineering and robotics reported 145 concentrators and 38 completers.
What it means for CCMR: Presenters said the district’s rate of students earning an industry-recognized credential (IVC/IBC) rose to 35% this year from 23% the year before, improving the district’s CCMR mix of college- and career-ready indicators.
Scheduling and scheduling fixes: Board members asked whether students in programs such as criminal justice would be able to access practicum or certification classes without losing time to extracurriculars. Presenters said they had adjusted the master schedule to move a practicum course out of first and second periods into third and fourth periods to reduce conflicts.
Board response and next steps: Trustees received the report; presenters said they expect CTE code changes (completer/concentrator definitions and sunset rules on some IBCs) to continue to affect how students qualify for CCMR metrics and that the district is aligning programs of study accordingly. No district policy or budget changes were proposed during the presentation.
