The Beloit City Council approved annexing 0.597 acres at 2111 East Ridge Road from the Town of Turtle to the City of Beloit so the property owner can connect to the municipal sanitary sewer system.
Julie, planning staff, said the owner requested annexation to obtain sanitary sewer service after their private well and septic system began failing. City and county planning documents place the property inside the city's sewer service area, and state review found the annexation to be in the public interest, counsel noted.
Council suspended its rules at the applicant's request to expedite consideration, then approved the annexation by motion and voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff and the property owner will proceed with steps to connect the house to city sewer infrastructure.
The annexation is intended to allow immediate sanitary sewer service to address the property's failing septic system; staff noted that any connection and public improvements will proceed through engineering and permitting review.
