The Port Hueneme City Council on June 16 directed staff to begin work of a proposed veterans advisory ad hoc committee with the three applicants the city received after public recruitment.
City manager staff told the council that the council had previously directed staff to advertise for an ad hoc veterans advisory committee and that, after a short extension, the city had received three applications. Staff presented options including extending the application period until at least five applicants applied or starting the ad hoc panel with three members and filling additional seats later.
The city manager noted the timing concern because the council was about to go on its summer recess and said starting the committee now could allow work to begin over the summer. After brief discussion, the council voted unanimously to appoint three members and begin the ad hoc committee, with the understanding that staff would continue outreach for additional applicants and return to the council if further action was required.
No formal appointments were finalized in open session that night; the council’s action authorized staff to proceed with the three applicants who submitted timely applications.
