Johnson County Airport seeks one-year term-and-supply rail maintenance contracts up to $600,000

Johnson County Airport staff told the Board June 5 they seek authorization to award one‑year term-and-supply rail maintenance contracts to Kelly Hill Company, Musselman and Hall Contractors, and Capital Railroad Contracting for an aggregate not-to-exceed amount of $600,000, with options to renew for four additional one‑year periods.
"We're engaging our purchasing team... to put forward a term and supply agreement that will really position us to get service when we need service," Brian Johnson, airport staff, said. Johnson said the county recently delivered a first rail car to Flora Foods on new track and that rising freight demand makes having vetted rail maintenance vendors necessary to avoid delays.
Commissioners indicated support and asked for follow‑up on some incidental questions; no formal contract award occurred during the agenda review. Airport staff said they will return next week with the formal item for Board action or place it on the appropriate consent agenda.
