Committee members asked staff to explain how Springwell congregate meals, Springwell‑funded traveling meals, and the senior center’s own delivered meals relate to one another.
A staff member explained that Springwell provides congregate meals at the center and delivers travel/"traveling meals" to homebound participants; some clients may be eligible for both, but Springwell will not fund a duplicate meal if it is already being provided by the senior center.
"If they're paying privately for traveling meals, anyone who's over 60 and need them can get meals through SpringWell through us," the staff member said, adding that Springwell can pay fees for certain clients and in that case the senior center should not also deliver the same meal to avoid duplicate payment.
Staff described the programs as complementary: the center’s on‑site meals aim at food security and socialization, while Springwell’s traveling meals are designed for homebound residents with health‑specific needs and include a welfare/check‑in component. The traveling‑meals program provides both lunch and dinner for eligible participants; the center’s congregate meal provides a single lunch at the site.
Committee members also asked about pickup patterns and noted the center now occasionally picks up residents at Wingate and North Hill when needed; staff said those facilities generally provide their own transportation, and the center fills gaps as necessary.
No formal action was taken; staff said the programs coordinate frequently and staff will continue to clarify eligibility and payment channels for participants.
