Crook County commissioners on May 28 authorized county staff to sign an amendment with PBS Engineering and Environmental LLC for annual environmental monitoring and testing of the county landfill.
Jackie, a county staff member who presented the item, described PBS as "the firm that performs all of the landfill's environmental monitoring and testing, groundwater, methane, things like that." Jackie told the board the contract was originally put in place in 2018 and that the county receives an annual cost estimate from PBS. "Last week, Eric drafted this amendment for services this upcoming year for just over $65,000, which is a $4,000 increase over last year's cost," Jackie said.
Because county legal counsel was not present, a commissioner moved to authorize signing the amendment at the meeting. The motion specified an amount, "probably in the amount of $65,936," and was seconded. Commissioners voted in favor and the chair said the motion moved.
No further discussion was recorded in the meeting minutes or transcript. County staff indicated they would obtain the signature and finalize the amendment.
The action continues an existing contract that county staff said dates to 2018; no changes to the scope of monitoring were described at the meeting. The amendment amount given was $65,936 and was described as roughly $4,000 higher than the prior year.
