CTE construction progressing at JVCTC; culinary expansion, childcare remodel and CDL program move forward

Board members received an update on capital projects at the Joint Vocational‑Technical Center (JVCTC), where administrators said several projects are on track though weather has slowed work temporarily.

What administrators reported: site excavation and footing pours are complete for a major addition, and contractors (Hill Road Construction and the architect) now hold biweekly construction meetings. The childcare remodel still requires an HVAC coil (ordered) and the playground fencing; both were expected to be completed in early June. Culinary arts expansion equipment has been purchased for a partnership with the Jamestown Art Center and is scheduled for delivery and installation in July, pending readiness of the Art Center.

State oversight and budget: the superintendent said original bids in December exceeded budget and the project had to be rebid to fit the approved scope; the state CTE director visited and commended the district’s plan and value for money. Administrators noted inflationary pressures affected project scopes elsewhere in the state but said Jamestown adjusted the plan to remain within budget.

Other CTE items: JVCTC staff and students continued equipment setup for auto collision and building trades, and the CDL program is running with notable expenditures and revenues; the district is still seeking a part‑time CDL instructor.

Next steps: administrators encouraged board members to schedule site visits, said they will continue construction updates, and noted crews and JVCTC staff are addressing issues such as asphalt damage from heavy equipment and final site preparation.
