Henrico County Public Schools officials on June 12 presented an overview of the division's federal grant applications for the 2025–26 school year, projecting just under $14 million in potential funds to support instructional programs and student services.

Tina Alsop, director of federal programs and foundational learning, and Leslie Hughes briefed the board on the annual applications. "Our projected total for federal grants is just under $14,000,000," Alsop told the board, noting that final allocations from the Virginia Department of Education will be confirmed in September.

The division's preliminary projections presented at the meeting included Title I at about $10.8 million, Title II at roughly $1.3 million, Title III at just under $600,000, and Title IV at just over $900,000. Division staff explained Title I supports 20 elementary schools with the highest needs and funds literacy and math instructional coaches, early learning preschool staff and resources, McKinney‑Vento services for students experiencing homelessness, family engagement initiatives, school‑based instructional programming, professional learning and summer literacy resources.

Officials said the division prepares grant applications on a level‑funding basis each year and maintains contingency planning. "We have plan A and plan B," Superintendent Dr. Cashwell said, adding that staff have analyzed how reductions would affect employees and services and that fund awards are typically finalized in September. Board members asked about timelines and contingency planning if federal allotments change; staff replied that the division budgets with awareness that most grants are annual and that reserves can help bridge gaps if funding fluctuates.

No awards were finalized at the meeting; the presentation was an informational update on planning and priorities for the coming school year.
