Dr. Jermison told the board the district and representatives from the parks department have identified a different parcel than originally discussed and that the parcel currently under consideration is part of Wilkinson’s Playground, which the district does not own. He said the swap would consolidate ownership so the district would own the portion of playground land that sits adjacent to district property.
Board members and staff said the swap will require rezoning and planning-and-zoning approvals before the district could bring a formal vote. Appraisals had not been completed at the time of the briefing; one board member noted the two parcels seemed similar in value but said appraisals would be needed to confirm parity.
Dr. Jermison stated he would abstain from action on the item at this meeting but remained available for conversation as staff develop the proposal; the board took no formal action and placed the item on the board update for future consideration, with a potential vote anticipated in July if rezoning progresses.
Board members asked for additional detail on appraisal timing and the rezoning process, and staff said they would present the appraisal results and any required land-use approvals at a future meeting before seeking a formal board vote.
