East Ramapo students honored for YMCA Youth in Government and MOUSE AI Design League projects; Ramapo athletes earn state recognition

The East Ramapo Central School District on Monday recognized student achievements including selection to statewide civic-program awards, participation in a national AI design league and high school athletic honors.
Alan Cruz, a senior at Ramapo High School, told the board he was selected from about 800 students at the New York State YMCA Youth in Government conference and earned an Outstanding Delegate Award. Cruz said he was chosen to attend the National Conference on National Affairs (CONA) June 27–July 4 at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, representing Ramapo High School and the district.
Dr. Gonzales and robotics teacher Mr. Alvarez told the board that East Ramapo was the only Rockland County district to participate in the MOUSE (Make Our Unique STEM Education) AI Design League. District staff said 86 students signed up for the program; 56 produced working digital artifacts (websites, video games and apps) and 10 students presented projects at Amazon’s New York City headquarters. One student project, described in the meeting as the "Eviction Addiction" app, was praised by a Microsoft engineer who told the mentors the game "emphasizes the importance of avoiding certain harmful substances and allows you to focus on what truly matters," as recounted in the district presentation.
Coach Delva (presented as "coach Devil" in the transcript) updated the board on Ramapo athlete Tanaya Joseph. Coach Delva said Joseph placed second in the 100 and third in the 200 at the state meet and was selected as Rockland County Athlete of the Season; Joseph will compete at the national meet at the University of Pennsylvania.
Interim Superintendent DeCarlo and board members congratulated the students and coaches and noted the district’s intention to continue supporting programs that provide mentorship and exposure to industry professionals and civic education opportunities.
The honors were presented during the superintendent’s reports and student-recognition portion of the agenda; no formal board action was required.
