Williston Basin School District 7 adopts new strategic plan, governance policies

Williston Basin School District 7 approved a new strategic plan and updated governance policies at its June 3 board meeting following a roll-call vote.

Board members said the plan aligns the district’s priorities, including expanded pre-K and leadership development, with an external accreditation review the district received this year.

The motion to adopt the strategic plan and governance policies was moved and seconded during the meeting and approved on a roll call. Board members who voted in favor included Marsh, Wheeler, Kilgore, Walstead, Junt and Brynner. The chair declared the motion passed.

Superintendent Dr. Jermison and board members discussed timing and implementation. Board members asked when changes would take effect and whether annual work plans and performance reviews would be adjusted to match the new plan. The board indicated the plan is intended to guide the district beginning July 1, 2025, and to be integrated into the board work plan and annual goal reviews.

Board members and staff said the strategic plan ties to other initiatives recently discussed by the district, such as expansion of the district pre-K program, increased use of assessment tools (NDA-Plus and Navi), professional development redesign and an emphasis on student agency and career pathways.

The board did not revise the plan on the floor; the approved document as presented will move forward to implementation steps, including staff briefings and community outreach planned for the fall.

Board members said they will report on annual goals and integrate performance monitoring into future agendas.
