The Pewaukee School District Board approved changes to the 2025–26 academic calendar. District staff said the revision removes a single student day on Friday, Jan. 2, because keeping that day created an unusually short winter break; the change preserves required instructional-hour minimums while allowing an additional staff in-service day focused on technology and training.
Administrators explained the district must meet minimum hours for elementary and secondary students (elementary reported at 1,050 hours; grades 7–12 reported at 1,137 hours). Staff said the revised calendar maintains required hours and retains approximately 15 hours of additional capacity for grades 7–12 to account for unexpected closings. To accommodate training needs, the board-approved calendar increases teacher in-service days from three to four and relocates staff development to the added day.
Board members raised a paperwork detail about the graduation date listed in the packet; staff said the planned commencement date for seniors is May 30 (Saturday) and agreed to correct the calendar packet before distribution to families. The board moved and approved the amended calendar; one board member recorded an abstention in the vote on related calendar motion.
