Page County honors volunteer of the month; student named James Madison University teaching fellow

The Page County School Board recognized Robin Markowitz as volunteer of the month for her work at Luray Elementary School, and introduced Tory (Victoria) Barker, who has been named a James Madison University teaching fellow and will attend JMU on a full scholarship.
Board members and administrators lauded Markowitz, a retired school librarian, for helping maintain the school library collection and reshelving more than 10,000 books this school year. Presenters noted her support for book fairs, classroom assistance and event projects and thanked her ‘‘for your hard work and commitment to Luray Elementary School.’’
Separately, staff introduced Victoria ‘‘Tori’’ Barker as Page County’s next JMU teaching fellow. The presenters said the fellowship provides room, board and tuition for four years at James Madison University and includes a commitment to return to teach in Page County Public Schools. Presenters cited Barker’s 3.75 grade‑point average, dual‑enrollment coursework through Laurel Ridge Community College and volunteer work in the school and community. Barker plans to study inclusive early childhood education.
Board members congratulated both honorees and invited community participation in upcoming events, including the school’s spring carnival on May 30.
