Coos County Forester Lance Morgan told the Board on May 20 that two county timber sales advertised in April received bids and that Roseburg Forest Products was the high bidder on both sales.
Morgan said the sales were advertised in The World newspaper on April 8 and April 15 and that the timber-sale auction occurred April 30. The board moved to award and sign the timber-sale contracts to the high bidders; commissioners noted the sales help supply local mills and local jobs.
A commissioner noted that the bid up was about $180,000 on one of the sales; the forester said he did not expect that level of receipts but was pleased with the outcome. The board approved awarding the contracts and signing the agreements.
Why it matters: Timber sales generate county revenue and support local industry; high bids can boost receipts available for county and forest-fund priorities.
Details: The forester announced bid results attached to the staff report and recommended awarding to the high bidders. The board voted to award and sign the contracts. Staff noted the county forest fund cannot be used for the general fund; forestry funds are restricted per accounting rules.
Next steps: Contracts will be signed and timber purchase work scheduled per contract terms.
