Sheriff’s Office and Tax Office Additions Moving Forward; Weather and Permitting Causing Short Delays

Atascosa County’s infrastructure report on Monday detailed progress on the sheriff’s office addition and the tax office addition, and noted schedule impacts from weather and permitting delays.

Curtis Vickers, who presented the monthly county infrastructure update, said interior inspections passed for the sheriff’s office remodel of the former training room, soil moisture inspections passed and the concrete pad has been built up. He said crews were preparing beams and framing, with tying steel and forming planned; crews had hoped to pour concrete by Friday but anticipated rain Wednesday and Thursday would delay that work and the parking-lot asphalt until next week.

At the tax office addition, Vickers said wall framing and exterior sheathing are complete, interior rough-ins are underway for inspections this week, and the roof installation began and should finish by the end of the week. He told commissioners the county submitted a 70-day extension to the contractor (noting weather and permit holdups) and that both projects are expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Commissioners invited the public to visit the sites to observe progress; no formal change orders or additional funding requests were recorded in the meeting minutes. The court did not set new milestone dates beyond the reporting that both projects should be complete within the year.
