Council approves annual ambulance contract with Eastern Clay County Ambulance District

The City Council approved Ordinance No. 25-06-01 on June 2 to authorize the annual contract with the Eastern Clay County Ambulance District to provide ambulance service to areas of Clay County that include parts of Excelsior Springs.
A city presenter, identified as Jake, told the council the agreement’s finances are similar to prior years. "If you do the math and calculate everything, it comes out to a $167,310.72, which is a 2% increase," Jake said. He also reported the ambulance district cannot meet that full amount but has pledged $120,000 this year, $5,000 more than last year.
The ordinance requires two readings; the council moved the item to second reading and later adopted the ordinance on the council floor. The roll-call votes recorded Councilman Rennie, Councilman McGovern, Councilman Speer and Mayor Pro Tem Saint John voting yes on the motion.
Why it matters: the annual contract funds local emergency medical response in the district. The budgeted amount on the city side rose modestly compared with the prior year, and the ambulance district reported a small increase in its pledge.
What’s next: the ordinance will be executed per the contract terms; the city will continue to coordinate call volumes and funding with Eastern Clay County Ambulance District.
