The Anderson County Commissioners Court authorized the county auditor to advertise a request for qualifications for an architect to design the addition to the Agriculture Extension Building located at 519 North Sycamore Street.
Commissioner Chapin told the court two previously named firms were unavailable and asked permission to solicit other qualified architects, including local firms. The judge outlined the procurement requirements under the Texas Local Government Code: the auditor must advertise for qualifications, the court must score submissions and select a firm, and engineering for electrical, plumbing and other systems follows approval of architectural plans. The judge also noted plans must meet state regulatory review and inspection requirements.
Court members discussed that some pre‑engineered metal‑building vendors maintain architect relationships but emphasized the county must follow the Local Government Code’s qualification and scoring process because the building will be a public facility requiring state compliance. Commissioner Chapin said he would provide names of local contacts to the auditor to encourage responses.
The motion to authorize an RFQ advertisement was offered by Commissioner Chapin, seconded by Commissioner Wilbanks, and passed with unanimous assent among commissioners present. The court said that after qualification submissions are received and scored, it will return to the court to select an architect and then proceed to bid construction.
