The Leroy James Farmers Market manager told the Board of Commissioners on June 16 that year-to-date attendance has surpassed 10,000 visitors and that vendor participation and sales have improved this season.
Noel Smith said the county added funding in the budget to support the market and that a recent capital-improvement project repaired roofs, paved the full parking lot and is working on garage bay door repairs for vendors. Smith said the new pavement improved accessibility and has been well received by customers and vendors.
Smith provided vendor statistics: in 2024 the market had 28 vendors (15 agricultural). In 2025 the market has 39 vendors (25 agricultural) including a new seasonal PRN spot. Vendor survey responses (20 respondents to date) showed 65% believed foot traffic has increased and 50% of vendors reported higher sales year to date compared with 2024. Smith said 34% of this year’s vendors are in their first season.
Smith invited commissioners to the market’s summer-solstice event the coming Saturday and encouraged them to visit to see the market improvements firsthand.
Commissioners did not take formal action on the market report; the manager thanked the board for previously authorized additional budget support.
