Pitt County approves $75,000 one-time allocation to Greenville affordable-housing program

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners voted June 16 to provide a one-time allocation of $75,000 to the City of Greenville’s affordable-housing program.
County Manager Lauren Gallagher told commissioners the program will build 50 affordable homes over the next 10 years in partnership with students and workers from Pitt Community College and that most homes will be located in West Greenville. Gallagher said further review showed the homes will need to be built on the community college campus and then transported to their final sites for regulatory reasons identified by the college, but that the program’s impact remains the same.
Gallagher recommended the county allocate the $75,000, and the board approved the recommendation by motion. The manager characterized the funding as a one-time allocation to support the partnership and home construction plan.
The county did not specify a timetable for how the $75,000 will be passed to the city or detailed milestones beyond the program’s 10-year build plan. Commissioners voted to approve the allocation at the meeting; additional project oversight and delivery details will be handled by Greenville and the county’s grant/accounting staff as the initiative proceeds.
