Tumwater officials report recruit graduations and academy participation for fire and police

Police Chief Jay Mason said the department has five people in training: three at the academy and two in field training. Mason described the situation as positive and said he is preparing for summer operations. Officials urged residents to refer qualified candidates for a planned external deputy chief recruitment.
