The Town Council voted June 25 to rezone a 4.21-acre parcel at 1110 East Lizzie Street from Industrial-1 (I-1) to Residential-8 (R-8), a change the applicant said would allow a permanent church use on the site.
Taylor Graham, town planning staff, told council the parcel is within town limits and partly in flood zones; the applicant, identified in staff materials as Iglesia Casa del Ferrero (owner-applicant) and represented at the meeting by pastor William Arriaga, said the church seeks a permanent site. Graham said churches are not allowed in the I-1 district but are permissible in R-8.
The council opened a public hearing, heard from the applicant who confirmed the plan for a single church use on the site, closed the hearing and then voted to approve the rezoning. Staff had recommended the change as consistent with the land-use plan and the planning board had found it consistent and reasonable, Graham said.
No council member recorded a dissent during the vote; the motion carried after the public hearing and staff recommendation.
The rezoning approval allows the applicant to pursue site development and any required permitting and building reviews under the R-8 standards.
