The Chehalis City Council on May 27 tabled consideration of a development agreement for the Lewis County Night by Night shelter until the underlying contract is finalized and presented to the council.
A councilmember who reviewed the materials recommended tabling because no executed contract was before the council. The city attorney advised that while tabling the item is not debatable under some policy provisions, the council opted to second the tabling motion and took a vote to table the matter until the contract is available.
Council discussion indicated urgency among some members to move shelter plans forward, but most agreed the council should see the signed contract before approving a development agreement that would bind city actions. The tabling was approved and the item will return when the contract is complete.
