South Lyon names Sydney Conrad fire chief; says open house drew several hundred

The South Lyon City Council introduced Sydney Conrad as the city's new fire chief during the May 27 meeting. Chief Conrad thanked the council and said she looked forward to serving in the role.
Chief Conrad provided recent activity numbers: 549 incidents to date and, since the last printed report, 24 calls for service that included 13 emergency medical calls, five public-service calls, two good-intent calls, two false alarms and two hazardous-condition calls. She said the department's recent fire-and-police open house drew between about 350 and 400 attendees despite rainy weather.
Councilmember Bogart asked for clarification about a "good intent" call type; Chief Conrad said good-intent calls include instances such as smoke alarms caused by low batteries or accidental activation of a medical alarm. Chief Conrad also noted upcoming events where the department would have a presence, including a car-show kickoff and the farmers market.
Councilmembers congratulated Chief Conrad on her promotion and thanked the department for the open house turnout.
