South Lyon — City Manager Mike Darga updated the council on multiple transportation projects on May 27, including the Pontiac Trail road project and a multi-community corridor project the city refers to as the "9 line" trail initiative.
Darga said the city is continuing design work with Oakland County on the Pontiac Trail improvements and will hold public informational meetings later this summer. He told council that a proposed dedicated southbound turn lane from eastbound 9 Mile Road onto southbound Pontiac Trail was not included in the federally funded portion of the project; if the city wants that turn lane included, the cost—estimated in the meeting at roughly $125,000 to $150,000—would be the city’s responsibility.
Darga also described voluntary participation in the 9‑mile corridor trail project intended to improve trail connectivity across multiple communities; he noted the arrangement requires no committed city dollars at this stage and that the city was represented on a county committee reviewing assessment and contract issues related to county operations.
