City manager outlines Pontiac Trail and "9-line" trail planning; right-turn lane would be city-funded
Summary
City staff updated the council on several transportation projects: Eagle Heights paving, an Oakland County assessing contract extension, the Pontiac Trail project and the multi-jurisdictional 9-mile ("9-line") trail partnership; adding a southbound turn on Pontiac Trail would require city funding (~$125,000'$150,000).

City Manager Mike Darga updated the council May 27 on ongoing road and trail work that will affect South Lyon.
Darga said road work for the Eagle Heights subdivision is scheduled to begin in the next weeks and that the city has asked Oakland County to extend its current assessing contract by 180 days while county staff review contract changes after an 86% contract increase the city experienced this year. Darga said he was appointed to a county committee that will examine the matter.
On the Pontiac Trail Road project, Darga said a planned dedicated southbound right-turn from 9 Mile Road onto Pontiac Trail is not included in the federally funded portion of the project; if the city wants that turn lane constructed as part of the scope, the city would need to fund it. Darga said an estimate for that dedicated turn lane ranges from about $125,000 to $150,000.
Darga also described the "9-line" project, a multi-community trail initiative along 9 Mile Road intended to improve trail connectivity across participating jurisdictions. He said South Lyon's participation at this stage is voluntary and creates no immediate financial obligation for the city; the partnership focuses on planning, signage and potential future improvements to widen or enhance existing paved paths where needed.
Darga said staff will continue preparing informational meetings for the Pontiac Trail scope and will coordinate with county and township partners on next steps.
