Orting — The Orting City Council voted Wednesday to declare a tow-behind lift used by public works as surplus and to authorize the city administrator to sell or dispose of the asset in the city’s best interest.
Scott Larson, briefing the hearing, said the city acquired the lift last year and that the public works committee recommended surplus. "The resolution gives the city administrator the authority to sell or dispose of any such items," he said.
Councilmember Hogan said the fair-market value was estimated between $35,000 and $40,000 according to Kelley Blue Book and recommended staff liquidate the item; Deputy Mayor Koenig concurred. Councilmember Moore moved to approve Resolution 2025-9; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote.
Why it matters: State law and city policy require a public hearing before disposing of assets acquired with utility dollars. The action allows staff to proceed with sale or disposal and return proceeds to the city per applicable rules.
