Owner of 543–545 Sixth Street given August deadline to file architect plans or face fines

The City of Bremerton hearing examiner set a deadline of Aug. 18 for the owners of 543 and 545 Sixth Street to file permit-ready plans from a registered architect and said fines will begin Aug. 25 if approvable plans are not submitted.
City testimony at the May 27 hearing said the property has been subject to stop-work orders dating back to 2020 and 2022 while the owners sought to renovate a commercial building into apartments and a storefront. The city said it has not received a complete, approvable plan set; a presubmittal letter and prior continuances have urged the property owner to retain a state-registered architect and submit plans.
The city requested a continuance while the owner pursues demolition or correction of a recently added bulkhead section; the hearing examiner noted repeated continuances and set firm administrative dates. The examiner said staff will review any plans filed by Aug. 18 and, if none are approvable by Aug. 25, impose the monetary penalties previously proposed by the city.
The hearing will be continued if the owner files compliant plans; otherwise the matter will return on the Aug. 25 calendar for enforcement action. The examiner said a written order setting these deadlines and the fines will be issued in the next several days.
