High-school band staff presented details June 9 about a proposed optional marching-band trip to Hawaii in the 2026–27 school year and described fundraising and participation plans.
The band presenter told the Camdenton R-III School District Board of Education the program previously made large trips — to Hawaii in 2004 and 2010, Washington, D.C., in 2015 and Los Angeles in 2022 — and that carrying out periodic multi-year travel cycles gives families time to plan and fundraise. The presenter said the trip is optional and students who do not participate will not lose their place in the band.
On fundraising, staff proposed five set events between now and the trip: two donation drives, two cookie-dough sales and a bread sale, plus booster-sponsored and parent-supported special events. The presenter said band boosters and parents in attendance at booster meetings support the plan and there has been no pushback from parents so far.
Board members had operational questions: whether the trip is optional (the presenter said yes), whether fundraising will provide opportunities so students will not have to pay out of pocket (staff said fundraising is planned to reduce individual cost), and whether a formal board motion was needed (a trustee said no, the item was informational).
The board received the presentation as an informational item with no formal vote. Staff said they will continue to work with boosters and bring additional itinerary and cost details to the board when available.
