Boone County approved a $100,570 contract with Adler Roofing on June 12 to apply a metal roof coating system to the McKinley Avenue building.
Randy Darnell of the county's construction consultant said the coating approach includes replacement of fasteners, treatment of rusted areas, new gutters and downspouts and a reflective white finish to reduce solar gain. He said the warranty is 15 years and extendable with proper inspection. Darnell said other jurisdictions, including the Joliet School System, have used the system successfully. Board members observed that the coating option is substantially less expensive than a full membrane or re-roof and that the work is appropriate for the building's condition.
The board approved the proposal by voice vote; staff said the contractor passed reference checks and that the project will proceed under the county's procurement process.
