County approves transit bus wraps and signs architect contract to design new transit building

The Boone County Committee of the Whole approved two items on June 12 to advance the county's public transit program: a $30,634 contract to brand new buses with full wraps and approval of an AIA contract with Sometra Architects for design of a new transit building.
The bus-wrap agreement will use CARES Act funds to brand and rebrand vehicles so riders can more easily identify county public transit vehicles. Erin Marshall, who handled the RFP process, told the board the wraps will be applied to five new buses received together this year and to the county's existing fleet.
Separately, the committee approved the AIA contract with Sometra Architects so the county can proceed with design work tied to a previously awarded IDOT grant. Becky and staff said the contract required back-and-forth changes with IDOT and signing the AIA agreement is a necessary step for the federal/state grant process and to obtain the formal notice to proceed. The AIA vote was moved by Commissioner Brian Curry and seconded by Commissioner Carl Johnson; the motion carried by voice vote.
Both actions were budgeted: the wraps out of CARES funding and the architect contract tied to the transit grant. Staff said additional grants are being sought to cover construction costs beyond current awards.
