Community Unit School District 300's board of education approved an expulsion, an administrative placement in the regional safe schools program, and a three‑day unpaid employee suspension during its June 10 meeting.
The board read a resolution citing 105 ILCS 5/10‑22.6 of the Illinois School Code and board policy 7:190 when moving to expel "student number 8" for violations related to alcohol, unlawful drugs or conduct that disrupts the school environment. The board approved the expulsion by roll call vote, 7–0. The resolution stated that if the student completes an accredited drug counseling program, the student may return for the 2026–27 school year and would be administratively placed upon return.
The board also voted to place "student number 9" at Oak Ridge School under the regional safe schools program (statutory citation read in the meeting). The motion described prohibited conduct including use of an electronic device to share or possess indecent visual depictions and other behavior that disrupts the educational environment. The placement motion passed on roll call, 6–0–1 (one abstention recorded by board member LaMarca).
In personnel action, the board adopted a resolution suspending an employee identified as Alexis J. Johnson without pay for three days for a violation of the DESA negotiated agreement (inappropriate workplace behavior). The suspension was approved 7–0; the resolution directed the assistant superintendent of human resources to set the suspension dates.
Separately, Deputy Superintendent Mark Wetzel introduced Dr. Joseph Prezbella (presented as Joe Przabella in the meeting) as the district's new director of school safety and security. Wetzel summarized Prezbella's law‑enforcement and campus safety background, including prior roles at Northeastern Illinois University and Northern Illinois University and teaching at Kishwaukee College. The board did not record a separate vote for the director announcement during the public session.
