Surveyor's Office updates Loffner project status and local storm impacts

Boone County Surveyor's Office staff said the storm drain portion of the Loffner (Trailside) project is complete but that road-base stabilization issues remain and are delaying paving, and staff described widespread heavy rainfall and resulting road closures over the weekend.
Carol, a Surveyor's Office staff member, said, “we did actually finish up everything as far as the storm drain is in.” She told the board the county is working through road-condition and soil-stabilization issues with the highway department and the contractor, and that “people out there are getting anxious. They want their pavement they want the paving done.”
Carol also reported that parts of the county received between about 4.8 and 7 inches of rain in a short period, and that county standards use 6.2 inches as the 1% (100-year) rainfall event for design of ponds: “I think what is 6.2 is the, 1%, the hundred year rainfall event.” Staff said they expected debris cleanup at road crossings and that many closures matched mapped floodplain areas.
No formal actions or new funding were approved at the meeting for repairs or cleanup; staff said they will inspect sites and follow up with affected residents.
