At its May 27 meeting, the City of Orange council accepted several resignations and appointed residents to multiple advisory boards and commissions.
Council accepted the resignations of Becky Westmoreland (Planning and Zoning Commission) effective May 27, 2025, and George Mortimer from the Planning and Zoning Commission effective May 13, 2025 (Mortimer also resigned from his seat on the Orange Economic Development Corporation board after being elected to council). Staff noted both had served for years.
The council appointed or reappointed several residents to the Library Advisory Board: Sherry Combs (partial term ending Sept. 30, 2025), Terry Halliburton (term ending Sept. 30, 2026) and Jean Pierre (term ending Sept. 30, 2026). Council also appointed Weldon (Will) Smith to the Planning and Zoning Commission to fill an unexpired term ending Sept. 14, 2025, and Megan Lane to a term ending Sept. 10, 2026.
For the Orange Economic Development Corporation board, the council accepted Mortimer's resignation and then appointed Reggie Broussard to the resident seat (term through Sept. 2026). Separately, the council appointed Council Member George Mortimer to the council's representative seat on the EDC board for the term through Sept. 30, 2026. During EDC appointments, the mayor noted a personal recusal where appropriate and council recorded votes for each appointment.
All nominations and appointments were handled by recorded vote; several council members recused themselves where conflicts were declared. Staff will update board rosters and publish official appointment records.
