The proclamation text recited by the mayor said the city’s recognition follows Gift of Life’s work providing more than 12,000 free prostate screenings since February in Southeast Texas and noted statewide estimates for 2025 of about 21,070 men diagnosed with prostate cancer in Texas and approximately 2,470 deaths. The proclamation urged men to pursue preventive health practices and early detection.
