Council awards bids to demolish seven substandard structures across Orange

The City of Orange council voted May 27 to award bids for the demolition and removal of seven substandard structures to qualified contractors.
City staff listed the properties and low bids: 2615 Eighth Street to Caesar Landscaping and Construction for $29,999.99; 2702 Avella Street to Caesar Landscaping and Construction for $3,199.99; 1502 Curtis Avenue to Caesar Landscaping and Construction for $2,999.99; 1202 Jayway Street to Caesar Landscaping and Construction for $4,200; 605 Park Avenue to Lark Group for $6,200; 2008 Park Avenue to Caesar Landscaping and Construction for $6,800; and 902 Scott Street to Caesar Landscaping and Construction for $2,999.99.
Staff member Mr. Knopf told council these were the lowest and best bids and that the demolitions are funded in part by grants tied to the opioid settlement. Council approved the motion by recorded Aye votes.
Staff indicated the demolitions would clear blighted properties and that some removals will abut community assets such as the historic district and Shangri La entryway. Contracts will be issued to the winning bidders and demolition scheduling will follow procurement and permitting requirements.
