The Mount Pleasant City Council on June 3 acknowledged a $7,200 summer programming grant awarded to the Mount Pleasant Public Library by H‑E‑B and the Texas Library Association.
"So I was just wanting to bring to your attention about a grant that we won at the Mount Pleasant Public Library from, it was awarded by H E B and the Texas Library Association, so we are 1 of the members that won, and it was for $7,200 to enhance our summer programs at the library this year," the library staff member said.
Library staff said the funds will be used to purchase new books, replace older items in the collection, support outreach to nursing homes and child day care centers, and to establish a seed library. A brochure describing summer events was mentioned as available for councilmembers.
Council praised staff for the effort. "That's awesome. Good job, Lupe," one councilmember said. Staff emphasized ongoing outreach efforts to bring books and programming to nursing care facilities and day care providers, in addition to on‑site events for children and families.
No formal action beyond acknowledgement was required or taken; the council moved on after recognizing the award and thanking library staff.
