Bridgeton announces limb pickup, delays outdoor pool opening and schedules council safety training after storms

Bridgeton officials on May 21 outlined several responses to recent storms and scheduled service updates for residents: a curbside tree-limb pickup running through Wednesday, May 28; a delayed outdoor pool opening pushed to Saturday, May 31; and active-shooter training for council members planned for June.
Bridgeton Police Chief Masati told the council the department activated the city’s action plan during the tornadoes that touched down in St. Louis and that the plan “worked well,” adding that the event highlighted the value of drills conducted during business hours. “We went into our action plan that we have in place here at city hall, and it worked well,” Chief Masati said.
Parks and recreation director Brendan Kane said the outdoor pool originally scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend will instead open Saturday, May 31, because of cold, rainy weather and because nearby Pattonville schools remain in session. “We are gonna push it back to Saturday, May 31,” Kane said.
Mayor (as recorded) told residents the city will run a special tree-limb curbside pickup beginning the day of the meeting and running through May 28 to help clear storm debris. The mayor also asked residents to place limbs at the curb by that date.
City Administrator Kevin Bookout and the mayor reported a recent meeting with the airport director and deputy director about the Carrollton West property on the west side of I-270, described in the discussion as a parcel of a little more than 300 acres. Bookout said one proposal discussed was extending a 50-year lease term to 99 years; another was exploring whether the federal government could take custody of the site. The airport had not received proposals under its initial timetable and sought local ideas.
Bookout also reported that Room at the Inn is renovating and hopes to return to its renovated space by the end of the year; the shelter is temporarily operating in rented office space in Florissant. Other operational notes in the meeting: the city will reinstall two large flags on a building weather permitting, and staff will post pickup details on the city website and the Bridgeton Facebook page.
The council also received scheduling notices: a Pattonville School Board dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 30, and the boards-and-commissions dinner on Thursday, Sept. 25. Chief Masati asked council members to email vacation dates so staff can schedule the active-shooter training in June.
