The Mexico City Council on June 9 authorized the purchase of a replacement effluent pump for the wastewater treatment plant at a cost of $42,614 from Van Vanzer Engineering.
Staff explained the facility’s final-stage effluent system previously had four pumps, and parts for the failing unit were no longer available. Preventative-maintenance contractor Van Vanzer Engineering provided a quote for a new pump with a prorated five‑year warranty. Staff said even if ordered immediately the pump would take roughly 12–14 weeks to arrive.
The department proposed funding the purchase from an $80,000 project reserve set aside for unanticipated repair costs; staff said the reserve would cover the $42,614 purchase. Staff asked council to authorize the purchase to avoid further reliability risk at the treatment plant. Council approved the purchase by roll-call vote.
Staff said the pump purchase is intended to maintain treatment-plant operations while the city continues longer-term asset-replacement planning.
