Pompton Lakes council appoints Anthony Massaro to fill vacant seat

Mayor Michael Serra and the Pompton Lakes Borough Council voted on May 14 to fill a council vacancy by appointing Anthony Massaro.

The appointment comes after Councilwoman Lisa Kilberg submitted her resignation; the borough followed the process described by borough staff in which the departing council member’s political party submitted three recommendations and the council had 30 days to act. Borough Administrator Michael Corelli told the council the party had provided three names and the council was acting within that 30‑day window.

Councilmember (mover) formally nominated Anthony Massaro and the council held a brief discussion, including questions about Mr. Massaro’s party registration. Michael Corelli said the borough had no record of any petitions and that “he is a registered Republican and was appointed by the Republican County Committee” at the time of the appointment. Council members asked whether Mr. Massaro intended to change affiliation; Corelli replied that no petitions had been filed and that any such change would not affect this year’s process.

A roll‑call vote followed. The motion to appoint Anthony Massaro passed. Mr. Massaro was not sworn in at the May 14 meeting; the mayor said the oath will be administered at the next council meeting.

Councilmembers who spoke during the item emphasized that the appointment followed the party‑nomination process and that any future change in party registration would be handled according to election law and timelines.
