The Village of Rye Brook Board of Trustees on May 27 approved a multi-year agreement with Violytics Americas Inc. to implement road-management software, with staff reporting a three-year proposal and a cost of $33,780 per year.
Village staff said the Violytics product uses an iPhone mounted on a dashboard to record imagery while driving at a prescribed speed; AI processes the video into mapped, 10-foot segments with condition ratings, pothole detection and sign-fade detection. Staff compared Violytics to a previously selected vendor (Michelin), said Michelin had exited the business line, and recommended Violytics as offering more features for a modest price increase. The board asked about privacy and camera scope; staff said the system is focused on pavement and signs, and not on collecting personal identifying information.
Trustees approved the contract and asked staff to provide setup and implementation timelines; staff said data capture for the village streets can be completed in a week once equipment and setup are delivered. The mayor and trustees said they look forward to the road-condition results that will help prioritize capital paving and maintenance.
